At Haybridge, all students follow a study programme that is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. Students choose at least three A level (or equivalent) subjects - some students are able to choose four A levels, if this is deemed suitable. Any students who have not achieved the required level in English and Maths GCSE are expected to attend timetabled lessons to help them to work towards the achievement of these qualifications.
The Sixth Form study programmes also include a substantial amount of non-qualification activity, including weekly tutorials, work experience, study skills, and study support. Students undertake a wide range of accredited and non-accredited enrichment activities, including the Level 3 EPQ, Core Maths, DofE, Young Enterprise, Cisi, photography, debating, charity and volunteer work.
All students are expected to achieve the goal of a mimumum of ten hours work experience during their time in the Sixth Form. There are also a number of 'next-step' career and work-related opportunities such as the annual Careers and HE Fair, 'Career Wednesday', industry-specific career talks, HE briefings and university masterclasses. The Sixth Form has named Work Experience, Higher Education and Careers Coordinators and all students have at least one meeting with each of these to ensure we are aware of individuals needs.
A level reforms – an important consideration. As you may be aware, A level courses have changed. From 2017 all A levels will be reformed qualifications and will be will be examined at the end of Year 13 only and any AS units taken will not count towards the final grade achieved. All A levels have been ‘strengthened’ to include, where appropriate, a higher written and mathematical content. The other Level 3 A Level equivalent courses have also changed to include more externally examined units. These courses will continue to have AS level units counting towards the final grade achieved.
